13U Red & Blue - Head Coach: Richard Hepler

Coach Richard Helper; I was born, raised, educated, work and live in North Seattle. Sports were Baseball, Golf and Swimming. Entering high school in 1977, I engaged in all season competitive youth golf with the inception of the Washington Junior Golf Association, and at that time Golf was a spring sport. I therefore chose Golf but Baseball was close second in my passion and play.  Two year Captain of Roosevelt High School Golf team, winning Metro Championship in 1980.  I played Baseball whenever I could and have always been an engaged fan and student of the game. I currently live in North Seattle with my wife. I graduated from University of Washington in Civil Engineering and have been employed with Boeing for 33 years.  I have two sons who graduated from Nathan Hale and are currently juniors at Washington State University and University of Pittsburgh.

Coaching Career:

  • Started with coaching son’s youth team in North Seattle at 9U.
  • Bothell Baseball Club for 6 year 13U through 18U teams.
  • In 2017, watched son played at Nathan Hale High School and helped build the Nathan Hale Baseball Program as its Booster Representative.
  • Joined Rainiers Baseball in 2019 coaching the 13U and 14U Programs.  I am very impressed with the quality, support and integrity of Rainiers Baseball organization.
  • Serve as the Nathan Hale Baseball Booster Representative and Volunteer Assistant Coach focusing on player development and program growth.

I love watching and coaching baseball because of the complexity in positions and skills.  Baseball brings unique challenges in player skill development, strategy, planning and preparation for game execution. It is incredibly satisfying to see players, as individuals and as a team, work hard, develop multiple skills, knowledge and confidence in their abilities to compete and succeed.  It is important for me, as a coach and a mentor to have a positive impact on a player’s reflection of feelings, accomplishments and enjoyment of playing baseball.
