18U Red - Head Coach: Graylin Derke  Assistant Coach: Spenser Hobson

Coach Graylin Derke was born in Seattle WA, and played locally at Roosevelt HS before moving on to play 4 years at Westmont College graduating in 2016. After college Coach Graylin got the oppurtunity to play professionally for 4 years in Frontier, Pecos, American Association, and Pacific Association Leagues. He has been with the Rainiers Program since 2016 serving as the program's lead hitting instrutor. A quote from Coach Graylin on why he enjoys coaching and why he loves baseball; "I enjoy coaching because I enjoy helping other reach their goals. I have always loved baseball. There is no better feeling than squaring up a ball just perfectly. It was also one of the most challenging sports for me physically and mentally. Baseball has taught me so many life lessons and I love passing those on, not only to players, but everyone around me."

15U Red - Head Coach: Harry Stenberg, Assistant Coach: Brandon Thompson

Coach Harry Stenberg; From Tacoma, WA. Played baseball ever since I could pick up a bat, and played from little league all the way through my freshman year of college at the University of Washington with the club baseball team. I played 4 years of Varsity baseball in high school at Bellarmine Prep with my assistant, Brandon Thompson, and played select baseball through high school with the Kent Bulldogs, as well. This is my third year with the Rainiers program and seventh year coaching baseball overall. I previously coached with the Seattle Stars and Northeast Seattle Little League. Many of my coaches growing up were mentors to me and I still talk with many of them, and being able to coach now allows me to give back to the game and provide the same type of relationships with my players that I had growing up. Baseball is the greatest game because it's the ultimate team sport. One player can't carry a team to victories like in other sports, and the camaraderie in a dugout is the absolute best part of the game. Over a long season, players go through ups and downs, and having their team behind them will always keep that player focused on the bigger picture - team success.

14U Red - Head Coach: Richard Hepler, Assistant Coach: Eli Savitt

Coach Richard Helper; I was born, raised, educated, work and live in North Seattle. Sports were Baseball, Golf and Swimming. Entering high school in 1977, I engaged in all season competitive youth golf with the inception of the Washington Junior Golf Association, and at that time Golf was a spring sport. I therefore chose Golf but Baseball was close second in my passion and play.  Two year Captain of Roosevelt High School Golf team, winning Metro Championship in 1980.  I played Baseball whenever I could and have always been an engaged fan and student of the game. I currently live in North Seattle with my wife. I graduated from University of Washington in Civil Engineering and have been employed with Boeing for 33 years.  I have two sons who graduated from Nathan Hale and are currently juniors at Washington State University and University of Pittsburgh.

Coaching Career:

  • Started with coaching son’s youth team in North Seattle at 9U.
  • Bothell Baseball Club for 6 year 13U through 18U teams.
  • In 2017, watched son played at Nathan Hale High School and helped build the Nathan Hale Baseball Program as its Booster Representative.
  • Joined Rainiers Baseball in 2019 coaching the 13U and 14U Programs.  I am very impressed with the quality, support and integrity of Rainiers Baseball organization.
  • Serve as the Nathan Hale Baseball Booster Representative and Volunteer Assistant Coach focusing on player development and program growth.

I love watching and coaching baseball because of the complexity in positions and skills.  Baseball brings unique challenges in player skill development, strategy, planning and preparation for game execution. It is incredibly satisfying to see players, as individuals and as a team, work hard, develop multiple skills, knowledge and confidence in their abilities to compete and succeed.  It is important for me, as a coach and a mentor to have a positive impact on a player’s reflection of feelings, accomplishments and enjoyment of playing baseball.
